PUTTEPUH PROJECT
PUTTEPUH = Puheesta Tekstiksi - Tekstistä Puheeksi = Speech to Text - Text to Speech
PUHEENKÄSITTELYTEKNIIKAN SOVELTAMINEN AISTIVAMMAISTEN KÄYTTÖÖN SPEECH TECHNOLOGY FOR HEARING AND SIGHT IMPAIRED
In this project participate HUT acoustics lab, The Finnish Federation of Hard of Hearing, Näkövammaisten keskusliitto ry, The Finnish association of the deaf, Suomen kuurosokeat ry, Nokia and Sonera. The project is supported by TEKES and RAY.
The goal of this project is to research modern speech technology, how it could be used for people with impaired hearing or sight. The main research areas are speech recognition and synthesis.
Here's an example of using modern speech technology for communication between a person with normal hearing and a deaf person. Before there had to be an agent who translated speech to text and vica versa. We are trying to replace the agent with a speech recognizer/synthesis system.
